# Typography

Type is the substrate of most interfaces; get it right and everything else gets easier. Three decisions dominate: a readable body, a clear scale, and adequate measure.

## Foundations
- **Body size 16px minimum** for primary content. Smaller strains reading; if it looks too big, your layout is under-using space, not the type being wrong.
- **A modular scale.** Pick a base and ratio (e.g. 1.25) and derive sizes from it (16, 20, 25, 31…). Random sizes feel arbitrary; a scale feels intentional.
- **Line length (measure) 45-75 characters.** Too long and the eye loses the start of the next line; too short and rhythm breaks.
- **Line height inversely with size.** Body ~1.5; headings tighten toward 1.1 as size grows.

## Hierarchy
Use size + weight + color to signal level, but change one thing at a time per level, or levels blur together.
