# Compliance Checklist

Compliance failures usually aren't from ignorance of a single rule but from missing it entirely. A checklist ensures every obligation is at least considered.

## What to cover
- **Corporate.** Filings, registered agent, foreign-qualification in states where you operate.
- **Employment.** Worker classification (contractor vs employee — high-stakes and often wrong), payroll taxes, I-9, anti-discrimination postings.
- **Data protection.** What personal data you collect, where it's stored, lawful basis, breach-notification timelines. GDPR/CCPA + sector rules.
- **Industry-specific.** Financial (licensing, AML), healthcare (HIPAA), children (COPPA), and so on.
- **Marketing.** CAN-SPAM, TCPA, FTC endorsement/advertising rules.

## Use
- A checklist is a memory aid, not a substitute for legal advice. Unknown unknowns still need a lawyer's eyes periodically.
- Assign an owner and a review cadence. A checklist nobody owns rots.
