# Analytics Tracking

Page views and clicks feel like progress but prove nothing. Track metrics tied to business outcomes, and make sure the tracking itself is trustworthy.

## Layers
- **Acquisition.** Where did they come from? UTM-tag every link so attribution is honest.
- **Activation.** Did they do the thing that signals real value (sign-up, first action)? This is the funnel step that most leaks.
- **Retention.** Did they come back? A leaky bucket refills slowly.
- **Revenue.** Tied back to the source. This closes the loop on "which channel actually pays".

## Trust
- Audit the tracking before trusting the report. Misfiring events and double-counted conversions produce beautiful dashboards of fiction.
- Define conversions once, everywhere. "Signup" meaning three different things across teams makes cross-channel comparison impossible.
